Money for College

There are 4 sources of money to help pay for college.

  • 1. Private Scholarships

Private scholarships are available from businesses and organizations.  Scholarship applications may be found in the Career Center and by searching the internet.

  • 2. Money directly from the college

Colleges have scholarship money to award students based on merit, need, athletics, service, leadership, etc.  Many colleges have a separate application for scholarships and special programs.  Deadlines may be as early as the fall of your senior year!   Visit the college's website for more information.

  • 3. Money from the Federal Government

Students and parents/guardians may fill out the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) beginning Oct 1st. of senior year to apply for federal funds (including the Pell Grant).  These funds include need-based and non-need- based grants, work-study programs, and loans.  www.fafsa.gov

  • 4. Money from the State of Mississippi

The Mississippi Office of Student Financial Aid offers scholarships and grants based on merit and financial need, including MTAG, MESG, HELP grant, etc. for students who will attend college in Mississippi.  The online application opens Oct 1st. of senior year and can applied for at the same time as the FAFSA application.www.mississippi.edu/financialaid
